Proper socialization is the most crucial part in raising a confident and friendly dog. It is important to never under-estimate the importance of taking the time to socialize your dog. There are a lot of misconceptions about socialization, and we educate our clients and socialize their dogs the correct way. Our socialization plans are tailored to your dog’s particular needs. Together, we can help your pup grow and develop into a behaviorally stable, well-socialized and happy dog.
This eight-week long program is offered 2 or 3 days a week for puppies 10 to 16 weeks of age. You will drop your puppy off at school in the morning. They’ll participate in training classes and socialization throughout the day. At the end of each week, you will receive homework assignments, pictures, videos and report cards on your pup’s progress.
At School Your Puppy Will Learn:
Basic Commands with Hand Signals: Sit, Down, Leash Walking, Leave It
Name Recognition and Recall
Potty and Crate Training (personalized potty schedule!)
Nipping and Bite Inhibition Training
No Jump and No Bark Training
Appropriate Socialization and Play
Desensitization and Familiarization Training with loud noises and common household appliances
Puppies and Vaccinations
Puppies are allowed and encouraged to enroll in our program as early as 10 weeks of age before their vaccine series is complete. Both the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior and the American Veterinary Medical Association support early socialization of puppies before they are fully vaccinated. Behavior Society Supports Early Puppy Socialization
The ideal age is between 10-14 weeks so that we can maximize their potential during the critical socialization period. We recommend that your puppy be living in your home for at least 1 week prior to starting the program.
What do I do if I want to enroll my puppy in the Socialization Program but he/she does not have all of their shots?
Puppies are not required to get a rabies vaccination until they are 4 months old. For other vaccinations, we require that the puppy be as up to date as possible in order to be protected.
Will my puppy be given potty breaks while there?
Yes absolutely. We have built in potty breaks throughout the day in order to reinforce potty training.
Do I attend the program with the puppy?
You do not attend the program with your puppy. You will drop your puppy off in the morning and pick up a well socialized and trained puppy at the end of the day. On the first day, you will receive a Bark U Backpack and a Syllabus to follow along with the program. You will also receive weekly report cards, pictures and homework so you can see how your dog is doing and in order to reinforce behaviors at home.
Are there any prerequisites for the Undergrad Program?
Yes. We require that your dog complete our Puppy Socialization Program in order to enroll in the Undergrad Program.
